Looking at replacement boards...advice???

Is the only difference between the Inland Surfer Sweet Spot and the Sweet Spot Ultra the carbon fiber construction? Dramatic ride difference? EVO has the Ultra on closeout cheaper than the 2016 Sweet Spot.

Backup is Ronix Koal Technora Thruster.

However, once I've cracked $650, I feel like I should just go Inland Surfer.

If you read the forum, I lost my beginner board yesterday. Hard to really gauge my ability level because I feel like that board was like surfing with a canoe.

I really wished I could help you in your unfortunate situation but I am no help. I recommend doing the research on here and themalibucrew and picking the board that fits your style. There are no wrong choices, just choices.

Not sure if this is even an option for you but my local dealer has an awesome program where you pay $75 and can try any board they sell for $10. Then when you figure out your preference they will credit all of those funds back to the new board purchase price. It left me on a board that I liked best (of the 4 I tried) that according to some forums was not a good fit and I would never have even considered buying.

Just like shoes - board buying is so subjective. What feels good to one person prob will not to another.

I only suggest it as if your dealer does not currently do something like this you may suggest the biz model to them. It's a great way to guarantee that the customer will buy from them vs saving a few bucks on the Internet as they will want to get that money already spent back.

It was much easier back in the day when you only had a few options on highend wakesurf boards.. But today you have good options from a number of companies.

I do see that the 'wakeboard' companies are making boards pushing the limit on price and that is causing people to look more and more at the smaller wakesurf companies.

Since wakeboard companies are losing sales on the wakeboard side they are looking to make up those numbers on the surf side and I am not sure that the boards they are making command that $650 plus price point. The koal thruster is not a bad riding shape but that board runs $679 now. I have been on that board a few times and for a wake company board it is not bad. As the wakeboard companies keep pushing prices up I see less and less sales in those board. It was an easy upgrade from a $299 entry level board to a sub $500 board as the next upgrade. If I were running a wakeboard company making wakesurf boards I would keep them under 500 for the highend because that is where they will see the most sales for their brands.

The Sweet spot ultra is the same board with just a different look. I don't feel that it rode any different than the regular. The issue I had with the sweet spot was I would sink the nose if I came down front foot heavy and I am around 195-200 at the time I rode that board. It felt just a little small on me.

I would start with the weight range you are riding at and the type of style you like. Surf or Skim. that will help you narrow down some options and then keep whittling down from there.

** Note - You are still going to want to get a beginner board. Thing you don't want to happen is some new rider that takes your brand new 700+ wakesurf board right into the back of your boat and crashes the nose.. :)

I would like to suggest the LF TC custom as a boat board. Time and time again it is my "go to" board for getting people ropeless and learning what the push is. It is a nice hybrid that is responsive enough for my wife to learn to surf while still keeping my 230lb self on the brake while surfing.

Chris, call Nick at Chaos, he lives and shapes in Austin. You can meet up with him in person and get you squared away for a true custom board in person. Remember Tyler saying my Chaos was his favorite board he's ever ridden lol. If you're looking for a beater beginner board for everyone just look for a LF Fish model...cheap, almost neutral buoyant, stable as hell, and surfs 10-12yr old kids and 270lb dudes no problem (saw this behind Brandon's boat)

I hate that you suggested the Fish. I hate that board with a passion. One of my friend's that surfs regularly loves that turd. It goes forward and backwards, just not a carver.

My 270lb buddy carved it well and he's only been ropeless a few times. It's a turd compared to a custom board but a person learning would appreciate the neutral buoancy to get up and not being twitchy to just learn to do exactly what you said, "go forwards and backwards" to find the sweet spot and go ropeless. The original poster of this thread is very beginner at ropeless as we ride on the same lake and tie up often

Good advice all...thanks for the response. There is a plus/minus here. I was ready for a new board and this has forced the issue. However, losing my "beater board" sucks...I'll be "surfing" craigslist for a replacement.

I spoke with the folks at Inland Surfer for about a half hour yesterday and they suggested the Swallow for my size. Given what you've said, they also indicated I might be pushing the top end of that board unless I have a monster wake...I throw a decent wake, but it's an A20 so there are limitations.

I appreciate the custom board suggestions, but I don't think I want to wait that long in the middle of summer!

However, haven't pulled the trigger yet...
