We have unhooked a boat and other trailers 1000s of times with no incident. Some how we forgot to unhook the breakaway cable and drove away connected after putting the boat away on saturday. We have a 2016 Axis A20. Is this something we should be able to fix or do i need to take it in? Any advice on resetting the brake or what else do i need to know.

I'd be surprised if you can even move your trailer now. Have you tried? I believe the break-away cable, if yanked, is supposed to lock the brakes up and stop the trailer.

I'd call your dealer and see what they recommend.

Check all the paper work that came with your boat when you purchased it. I had a whole manual for my Boatmate trailer and in the manual was a section that explained how to reset your break away cable should it be activated. It also supplied extra clips for resetting the cable.

I recall this happening with a shop boat and all I remember is a bunch of crying by the service guys about it. I do not think it was a pleasant experience. Not sure all the details of our situation but it was more complicated than just using some extra clips. they had to replace a large section of the cable for some reason.

I hope your experience is easier.

We ended up taking it to the dealer just to be safe. $150 bucks later we are back in business.

Good to hear!

So yanking the cable didn't lock the brakes on your trailer? I thought that was what was supposed to happen. Maybe they just lock up temporarily then release? Did your dealer give any indication as to what exactly happened and what they did to fix it?
