Fault Code: spn 4238 fmi 0

Anyone get this fault code or know what it is? Boat ran great all day and threw this when we were sitting in neutral with the boat running. Boat is still running fine now. Pulled the battery cables for half an hour and code comes back within a few minutes of running.

I'll call the dealership tomorrow but they are an hour away.

Found this guide and it was super useful. http://www.ambil-yam.co.il/files/pdf/PC ... manual.pdf

Looks like I'm picking up a lean condition on Bank 2 pre cat. I'm going to take a gamble and order a O2 sensor and swap it out. That would be great if that was all it was.

Keep us in the loop please... engine fault codes suck.

Ordered the wrong one... :(

Ordered this one http://www.iboats.com/O2-Sensor-18-3215 ... id.1354033 first. This is a post cat sensor.

Went to SKIDIM like I should have the first time and the sensor is $30 cheaper and labeled as post cat only. They also had the pre cat for $53 http://www.skidim.com/SENSOR-02-4-WIRE/ ... o/R020051/ .

Ordered that one and its on the way.

Also flipped the pre cat sensors and the error code followed the sensor so I'm fairly confident that this will fix the problem.

EDIT: The sensor ordered from iBoats did not fit my boat at all. Pre and post cat are the same sensor.

Well the correct sensor came in tonight and I replaced the bad one. Still throwing the MIL light. Took it up to temperature and ran at 5K+ RPMs for 15 minutes or so. Using the onboard computer its still showing both sides error codes (from switching the bad sensor to the other bank). Hoping a few more cycles will clear it. Not looking forward to the hour+ drive to the dealership.

Anyone know what MEFI version the 2015 A22 has (Monsoon 350)? Having trouble finding info.

To answer my own question, its ECM-08 according to this http://www.rinda.com/acro/scantool_adapters.pdf

And to add to my issues, I threw a new code today. SPN 3227 FMI 5

This is for a Lazy/Open O2 sensor in Bank 2 which is now the original Bank 1 sensor I swapped over there. This is a ton of fun.

Before you keep chasing your tail have you called the dealer to check if there is an updated ecm flash or known tsb for the issue?

So update on this. Replaced both pre-cat O2 sensors and left batteries unplugged for the night. Started up and ran without light for half an hour of cruising. Took it wakeboarding the next two weekends and still no issues. Went wakeboarding and wakesurfing last Saturday morning and then threw the same code during our afternoon runs.

Pulled the sensor out this afternoon and found enough water in the exhaust portion of it... I did notice the last sensor had a bit of rust on the tip too but didn't think much of it.

I'm thinking it might be condensation. Anyone know what else would cause the sensor to have water in it? All of the other O2 sensors (including post-cat) were dry.

Another update.

Took it to the dealership. They said they looked at it, reset the code and it didn't return.

Put it back in the water yesterday and there's SPN 3227 FMI 5 within 5 minutes of starting up. Love this boat...

Going to replace the Bank 2 post cat with one of the 3 or 4 old sensors in that sensors I have laying around.

Starting to have to have a suspicion that there may be a leak in one of the cats. Seeing threads like this where the entire engine was replaced for the same fault code does not create a warm and cushy feeling. http://www.themalibucrew.com/index.php? ... ent=834072

My 2ct: I don't think there should any rust on an O2 sensor. I recently just went through replacing the seals in my exhaust (2014 LS3) and there was absolutely no rust on the O2 sensors. Also in my reading it looks like there are lots of patents about keeping water away from the O2 sensors. Seems like they cannot handle it.

Good luck!
