Check this thread out. Some good comments on that topic. I prefer to wakeboard but also like wakesurfing and skating. They're all fun when you're behind the boat, no matter which sport imo.

We still primarily wakeboard. The wife likes surfing too. I surf some. Ropeless on the axis with surfgate is too easy. We usually surf at the end of the day when we are exhausted from boarding.

Wakeboarding is mostly all my friends ,wife, and myself do. We are all in our 30s also. We also snowboard too. It only makes sense. I don't do any special tricks but I enjoy it. It is the main reason I still own a wake boat. The drinking fun can be had on any boat. Wakeboarding can't. I bought my boat on October 4th, 2013 and as of now, I have have close to 300 hours on it.

You can wakeboard behind a pontoon, a bassboat, or a runabout. My buddy Wayne rocks his 8yr old Bayliner with no tower and no ballast with backrolls and tantrums. I was barefooting in 1992 using a 100' rope behind my Skeeter bassboat. You don't need a specialty boat to have fun...except for surfing. There are some people that would question why does a person have a pro quality wakeboard boat but can't do more than wake to wake. It's all about how you choose to enjoy your boat. As far as wakeboarding losing its popularity I think it's just a progression. How many people do you see waterski, slalom, or kneeboarding anymore? As long as you're doing what you want why does it matter that overall wakeboarding has lots it's appeal to a lot of riders. On my lake wakeboarding is still popular even if it's just the beginner trying to go wake to wake.

We board every time we're out and surf occasionally. I love wakeboarding and my kids always want to surf. If I was big on surfing I don't think they would mention boarding very often. I feel like surfing requires little effort and you don't push yourself. I want my kids to take advantage of being on a wakeboard since the age of 5 and be able to throw down on one.

I respectfully disagree and have a different point of view with the common saying that wakesurfing you "don't push yourself". Stuart, if you would, please elaborate on "pushing yourself" in wakeboarding vs wakesurfing? Both require endurance, both require balance, both require timing, both have a mental aspect, both are great exercise, but only one really hurts with face slams, catching a backside edge and slamming your head, or blowing out knees or ankles. Are you saying the risk of injury in wakeboarding vs wakesurfing qualifies as "pushing yourself"? I come from the thinking that if you're wanting to excel in anything then you're pushing yourself. Whether you land your first 360 in wakeboarding or wakesurfing the stoke and excitement is still there.
