I demoed an A22 with the 350 1.72 transmission 1235 prop. I was extremely impressed by the way it pulled 3000 pounds of ballast around the lake. Got to wakeboard speed (22mph) relatively easy. the only concern I had was it was running 3900rpm without wedge and 4000rpm with wedge. (500ft elevation)
Seemed like with this high RPM it would drink gas like crazy.

The other concern is that the top speed was around 34-35mph. Would the 2249 prop help it get a few more MPH on the top end? I would still like the option to barefoot and wondering if there is any way to get the 350 with the 1.72 to 38 mph.

For the guys that have the PCM 409 do you like it or have any regrets for spending extra money to upgrade. Just don't want to spend $4-5k and not gain anything performance wise. I'm planning to build and order a 2016 A22. just trying to figure out which engine I should go with.

Love my 409 with the 2249.. surfs with 7k lbs ballast no problem at about 3100 rpms. We normally wakeboard very light as we are all old out of shape riders.

What is your Top Speed when cruising around?

I have a 350/1.72 w/ the 2249 and it does everything I need just fine. Top speed is 38-39mph but I never go that fast except for a short few seconds when I have the itch, lol.

I don't have 7k in ballast , but I do regularly have ~4k and the wedge down and have had 10 people on the boat and surfed no problem, wave was killer. Like the above poster when I wakeboard I run pretty light so no issues planning out or anything.

I'd say with your elevation you'd probably be fine with the 350, I'm around 1000' and no complaints.

Thanks for all the response. Sounds like the 350/1.72 with 2249 prop should be the good enough for what I have in mind. I would think the T22 and A22 should have close to he same top end speed with the 2249 prop. Still want to be able to hit barefoot speed if I get an itch once or twice a year.

42ish?? Never really checked it but plenty of top end... my friend has the 15' t22 with the 350 and it does good but I can tell the difference when there is weight in them. When empty there is not not a huge difference. I bought the 409 for two reasons: resale value and it was on the lot :) also my boat is bigger than a 22 so the extra power can't hurt.

I had the 1235 on my T22 and was disappointed in its performance as well. Switched to an OJ 948 and it improved drastically. I ended up with the 2247 on mine and have been very happy. The 948 is a great do it all prop. The 350 has been plenty motor for us.

15' t22 here. I have the 350 with 2249 and my top speed with no ballast and just the wife on board is 38. Maybe 39 under perfect conditions but def not a high speed prop at all. It tows the weight great like others have stated. I had about 3500 pounds of ballast wedge down and 8 adults on board at 2000' elevation and no problems surfing. Had to add a couple passengers up front to plane out for wakeboard speed but it handled great.

I've had two A22's. one with the 400 and 1235 and the other with the new 350 and oj 945. The biggest difference is top end speed. It does consume a bit more gas but not enough to wish I would have upgraded to the 409.

Good deal thanks for your input. Just to clarify the 409 with 1235 pulls about the same as the 350 with 1.72 transmission when loaded with 3000-4000lbs of ballast.

Are you saying the 409 uses less gas while loaded because the RPM's are lower?
