So this all started when I realized I was getting many sessions in this summer wakeboarding behind my jet ski. Then my friend took me out on his big boat with wakeboard tower and it was a riot. I owned a Yamaha LS2000 from 2000-2009 so I figured I'd look at the Yamaha 212x. I saw one and wanted it badly - ballasts and a cool tower…

Then it hit me - wakesurfing will be my game. I'm an adrenaline kitesurfer 50 year-old guy who specifically rides a strapless surfboard. WInd is usually dead in the summer where I live. Though wakeboarding is fun on windless days I know wakesurfing will be awesome because of the freedom. And the falls will be easier on my old body.

So I did some internet research and not too many recommend the jet boat for wakesurfing. I want the baddest ass boat for wakesurfing.

What are some general rules for the best wake for surfing? Like for example is it safe to stay with 2014 and newer boats? Longer boats? What about bigger engines (the optional engines on the Axis boats)? What affect do they have? Are they for bigger/better wake or for pulling around a lot of guys and ballast?

The 2013's I've seen don't have surfgate. I'd prefer to have "real easy push a button and get a good wake" technology without having to add extra people on the boat or do too many custom ventures. Typically just hang with 3-4 relatively light friends…

I'll probably go used so how many engine hours is considered acceptable to give me piece of mind? I've noticed some boats where folks have $100k into it, ran it into 150-200 hours over a season and a half and they are worth maybe 75k now which seems like a big depreciation to me…

Any tips on how to shop effectively to get value? Thanks...

I'm in the market for an Axis 22/23 footer and a dealer I contacted in the Northeast is getting out of their Malibu/Axis lines because they are not selling. They claim the market is too small for pure wakeboard/wakesurf boats. They mentioned the boats appeal to a younger crowd but their daddy's have to pay for them. And they are big money… And Daddy would rather have a pontoon boat or jet boat or typical sport boat.

Well I commend you for not buying a 212x as I traded a 2013 yamaha ar210 in on my axis and it was the best thing i have ever done! And from what it sounds like a 2014 or newer t22 would be the perfect boat for you with the pnp bags and with just 3-4 friends any engine will be fine as long as you run the correct prop.

Where are you located? and im sure people can recommend different dealers in your area also keep an eye out for used boats on here as well as in general online. With summer coming to an end people will be wanting to sell their boats to order a new one and if they pre order they will be motivated to sell it qiuckly.

Welcome to the forum. First off, how much are you looking to spend? Also, the folks buying the $100k boats and selling them for $75k probably gets great deals from their dealer cause they sell their boats at the end of the summer every year. I doubt they paid much more than the price they are selling the boat for...if not even trying to make some money off of it.

Take a look at the 2014 T22. You should be able to get into a used one for a little over $50k depending on the market around you. As far as engine goes, get the 350. The 330 will do fine for surfing fully loaded but it is nice to have the little extra hp.

I wouldn't worry about how many hours are on a 2014/2015. 80 to 100 hours per a summer is pretty average. 150 per a summer means the boat got some use but it wouldn't discourage me from buying it. I seem to be averaging about 120 hours per a summer on mine.

Anyways, best of luck.

I'm in Syracuse, NY and figure that around 50K is where I'm at - give or take… I don't see many of the T22's with the larger engine. I'll keep looking…

Im running a 15 with the 350. we have 750's in the back and the bow bag as full as it will do, with our regular crew of 6-8 we never have a problem with the boat performing. Only reason I would want a bigger motor is because I like big motors. The 350 is doing everything we need flawlessly right now.

Which dealer is dropping Axis/Malibu in the Northeast?
