Engine was just replaced on my 2012 Axis A20. The manifolds were on back order but the dealer had two "Malibu" manifolds that I was told were the exact same but black instead of silver. Not wanting to wait any longer I stated that if they were the exact same other then the color to go ahead and install them. Now that I have the boat home and have examined it, I do not see the cat logo that my previous manifolds had on them. How can an untrained eye tell if there is a cat present or not?

Thanks

if its perfectly round in circumference then it has catalytic converters, if its more oblong in shape then it probably doesn't

Non cat manifolds will probably be cast iron and have a textured feel on the surface, cat models will likely be cut out of stainless steel and have a large section 6-10" long where the catalyst will be installed and they usually have O2 sensors in the rear of the manifold by the hose connection similar to this pic

You should see 2 oxygen sensors about 8-10 inches apart on each manifold. no oxygen sensors no cat

I would have prefered CATs for little fresher air surfing, but my non-cat has not ever been a problem.

Thanks guys. And yes that was why I was concerned for the surfing. I will check on the weekend but I recall there being two O2 sensors so I am sure the Cat is there.
