Favorite wakes, in that order…
Got to ride my buddies brand new G21 at our Club's Learn to Ride day Saturday. I have one word…
WOW!!! It is everything that they say the G is. He has the 409 motor, stock ballast (2850) plus an approx 400 in Lead Wake bags. The wake is insane. HUGE, long transition and a nice kick to the top, but thick, you don't punch through it. Rode at 23.5 at 75' could have easily rode at 78-80 at that speed.
Closest wake to it that I have ridden lately is the A24 with 4000 lbs in it. Second closest would be my A22 when I have 4800 lbs in it, but still the G is bigger than both by a little bit. Amazing.
Now my A22 with 4800 lbs totals 8800 (according to dry weight measurement plus ballast)
A24 with 4000 lbs total 8500 ( || )
G21 with 3250 ballast and lead totals 8450 ( || )
So the 3 wakes I love the most are all about the same total weights. That is a lot of weight in a 21' boat. What was surprising with the A24 was how big the wake wake for the size of the boat and relatively less ballast. If I had $110,000 I would buy a G21 in a heartbeat, or I could by 2 Axis, one T22 and one A22
Also, it had the FAE system on it so it was nice and quiet inside the cab for a all fiberglass and sea deck interior. The 409 sounds awesome. I have HEARD that the wake without the FAE is even better, but cannot confirm that.
Now it drives very heavily, does not turn well for a 21 foot boat, and have only heard the G23 and G25 are really bad… however, this boat is really a tug boat, designed to pull riders. It is exactly what Axis' mission is, to build a riders boat… except that in the case of the G, there was absolutely no budget. It is def set up to be a riders boat. It is not nearly as comfortable inside as Malibu, but then again, no boats are. It is very industrial feeling, functional, but beautiful at the same time. I enjoyed riding it very much and hope to ride it a lot more. Driving it was okay, it takes on water over the back worse than any boat I have driven before, and it was not even slammed. You have to be very very careful when throttling down. No big deal really once you learn how to drive it. The prop on it, I was told, is a 17" diameter prop. Not sure what prop it is, what pitch or cup, ACME or OJ… but I do know that at 23.5 the RPM was 3900's. thats 300-400 RPM higher than mine with the 2315. Fuel consumption will be interesting. I will know how well it does later this summer.
Best stock wake I have ever ridden by far. And top 3 wakes I have ever ridden, ever. The owner demoed a G23 and G25 and said both boats stock wakes were a little bit bigger than the G21.
Beautiful Boat, incredible wake, built very very well.
