Hello all, we are looking at becoming the proud owners of a 2014 a22. We currently own a 2002 tige 23v and want to upgrade to a current wake\surf boat. My wife and I love the idea of surfgate and being able to wakeboard and surf without filling and draining all the time. We will be ordering ours and I have a couple questions for current owners.
1. are there any options you didn't get that you kick yourself for?
2. is the gps cruise control that much better? We have perfect pass now and it seems ok
3. anyone with complaints about the sony deck?
4. if we order the boat without any stereo do I have to cut fiberglass for the cabin speakers?

Sorry if these seem silly. I am just excited to become an axis owner :D

1. The only one for me is the engine. I wish I had gone for a bigger one, but that can't really be changed after the fact. I ride with a lot of weight, and if you have a lot of room to ride before a turn, the 335 with the right prop does fine. But I live on a smallish lake so the time it takes to plane or get back to speed after a turn does eat up a bunch of space that cod be used for riding. If I was to do it again, I would seriously think of going with a bigger engine do to my lake situation. If you have the space or won't wide with much more than stock ballast, the 335 will do fine.
2. I used to think paddle wheel was better, but again that was when I did a lot of riding on rivers and large lakes. GPS is bad on a river when it doesn't properly account for current speed. Where I live now, I ride on small lakes with a lot of turns and the paddle wheel doesn't do great with that. I'm really thinking of upgrading to GPS next year.
3. I think the Sony head does a good job. Would be nice if it had blue tooth but not a big deal for me.
4. As I understand it, you will have to cut vinyl but not fiberglass.

welcome to the forum and good luck with your purchase... new boat ordering is so fun, but can be stressful when making big choices.

1. I can't think of anything that I didnt order that i wish I would have. I did not order the deck track but my dealer had it put on for me and I am so glad he did. It is a must have in my opinion. As for the motor, I have the CAT 335 and it does really great with fuel consumption and with the right prop it can push a lot of weight, the only upgrade when I bought was the 400 and it was not worth the money (according to some owners). Now you have a few choices... 335 350 450. If you can swing the big motor, 450, you will be able to put so much weight and people in it and never worry about ever planing, but if not, I wouldnt go with the 350 because I don't believe you gain any torque at low engine speeds, I think all its power is up in the rpm range (4000+) so it is almost useless. I could be wrong, you need to find the specs for the motor. I am happy with my 335 though.

2. Never had gps, but even with 5000 lbs in my boat, the axis cruise (paddle wheel) holds speed very well with the 2315 prop.

3. I agree, I love my sony head unit, it is so easy to use, takes usb cable so I can plug my Ipod or iPhone in and control it from the head unit. Plus the read lights and buttons match the dash and it looks really good.

4. I ordered my boat with the head unit only, no speakers or amps. I asked for the holes to be cut at the factory though, and they did it for no cost, even wired my head unit and ran all the speaker wires in the boat and in the tower. This saved my like $1500 or so and I threw that into a my upgrade of a full wetsounds in boat system for almost the same price... Install was so easy because of the holes and wires already done. If you ask you should be able to get it this way as well.

good luck

Thanks for the posts. We will go with the 335, I don't see an advantage to the 350. I forgot to ask about the second gorilla fin option. Anybody with experience with one vs two?

Heater...only regret at all I have on my boat. We ride all year round here in California on the Delta, and having a heater would be HUGE and I really regret not getting it. We just recently spent a week on the lake up there in Sandpoint and a heater would have been nice on a few of our 5am sunrise sessions too. ;)

I don't know about having the second fin, but I can tell you that you don't need it. The boat handles great with one fin, and tracks straighter than a lot of other boats I have driven. The axis fin is larger than the fins on a lot of other boats where 2 or 3 are used.

I agree. 2nd fin was not an option when I bought, now my dealer says he orders all his boats with it and will put the 2nd on my boat for $600 or so... I say it is a waste of money, the A22 handles and turns so well, even with a couple tons of weight in it. I ride in a tight spot with tight turn arounds and my boat handles like a dream... no doubt the second fin will be even better, but it is not a necessity.

Thanks again guys. Heater is a must here. Dealer said second fin isn't necessary and doesn't recommend it. He quoted me a great price with some nice extras. Just gotta get the wife to ok it.

Just buy it and ask for forgiveness like I did. She will forgive you when you take her out on the water;)
