I'm demoing a 2014 A22 w/ surfgate tomorrow and will also be checking out an A24. I'll try to get as many pics as I can. Anyone have any specific shots they want to see?

Try and get some good shots of the rear/surf gate. I would like to know if they use the same platform brackets and if the hull is unchanged. Basically, i would like to know if all they did was add a new surf platform and surf tabs to the existing hull. If this is the case, and we could just buy the parts. any do it yourselfer could retrofit one to their old boat.

Also try and get pictures inside the rear compartments where the surf gate would bolt through the hull.

I've heard you can't retrofit the surfgate as the 2014's have thicker fiberglass at the mount points specifically for it.

That may be the case, but doesnt mean it cant be done. There are all kinds of people that have put aftermarket/homemade surfgates on anything from late model Malbus to Supras and they are holding up just fine with out beefed up hulls. I Just find it very hard to believe that a hull strong enough to to support the extra force of a wedge cant support the minimal force generated by a tab sticking off the side. But hey, im not an engineer so what do I know. If anything I would guess that the "beefed up hull" is some sort of backing plate like the wedge has. If this is the case it could be easily fabricated. This would have definatly been the cheaper route for Axis to take vs redesigning the hull to be thicker.

I was figuring it'd have some type of back support plate inside the hull as well. I'll try to get good pics of the inside where it mounts to.

I'm thinking the same, if it can withstand the wedge at 25 mph it can definitely stand a surf tab at 11-12 with minor reinforcing
