We have a 2011 A22 and on Sunday of last weekend the speedometer all of a sudden stopped working. Everything was working great on Saturday. The analog gauge and the digital readout both stay on zero and do not move. About half way through the day on Sunday we did the reset by holding down the info button and initially that didn't seem to do anything. Then about 5 minutes later everything started working properly again. We drove for another 5 minutes or so and then it went back to showing zero. We have checked the wheel underneath to make sure that it was spinning freely and we have also tried disconnecting the battery in hopes that it might reset something.

Has anyone had this happen? Any suggestions on something else we might look at or try before taking it to the dealer?

Have you checked the paddle wheel on the bottom of the hull?

That was my first thought as well, but we've checked the wheel and it is spinning just fine.

Check the connector for the transducer, right below the chillax seat on the port side, next to the thru-hull pump for the rear ballast, may have moisture in the connector causing problems. Here is a not so good pic I took when installing my GPS

Thanks for the image and suggestion Walter. I will take a look at this area tomorrow and report back on whether I'm able to get it fixed.

On the 2012, the paddle wheel only has a short cable, maybe 5 or 6 feet. It plugs into a harness on the port side of the engine. You may want to look there too.

Oops, I said chillax, I meant the sky box seat in the center rear

Thanks for the suggestions guys. So when we got the boat on the water last weekend, the speedometer ended up working the entire time. It was off about 1mph from the reset that we did, so we fixed that and then assumed we would be good to go. What then started happening though is that the cruise control started surging. We had it set at 10.8 for surfing and as we would be going along, the actual speed on the digital gauge would drop to 5 or 6 all of a sudden even though the actual speed of the boat didn't change. That caused the boat to surge ahead because it thought that it needed to get back up to 10.8 even though we had never truly dropped in speed. The gauge was also beeping and the actual speed displayed would flash almost continually during a run. Initially it would do this several times per surf run, but then towards the end of the day it was doing it maybe once per run.

We opened up the area back by the engine as you suggested Walter. We found the speedometer unit which is made by a company called Airmar. It's basically just a tube with a wire going into it that then goes through the hull and it has the wheel on the bottom side of it. There were two screws on the top that I took off and that allowed me to take the cap off of the top of it, but it didn't really show me anything additional. There isn't any kind of a connector. The wire just goes down inside the tube and then the other end goes in toward the engine compartment. There was a small amount of water in the top of the tube when I took the cap off of the top. We left everything open and wiped up any water that we found in hopes that it would dry out during the week. I don't have high hopes that it will resolve things, but maybe we'll luck out.

I haven't followed the wire from the Airmar tube into the engine compartment yet. I will try that Saturday and see if I can find any kind of a connection that may be loose. I'm starting to think though that the wheel/tube part may be going bad. The wheel itself spins freely, so I don't know what else would really be in there that would go bad, but it sure seems to be something with that piece.

Thanks again and let me know if this new information leads to any new suggestions.

six4mj - this may be a stupid question, but just trying to eliminate all possibilities; you said the paddle wheel was spinning just fine. However, did you actually look at the paddle wheel to ensure you had all 4 paddles? This happened to me recently where i had broke one off with my bunker. i didn't notice that a paddle was broken while looking under the boat because the weight of the others hid it on top. i spun the wheel and it spun fine but never noticed the broken paddle until i pulled out the whole unit.

Bump, curious if there was a fix for this problem. I had a similar situation with my 2012 A22 this past Saturday.
The speedometer quit reading digital speed, stopped the boat, killed the motor then restarted and the problem resolved and began reading speeds again. Began surfing at 10.8 again (like i have for the past 2 years) and the wake was washed out almost like we were going 12-13 miles per hour.
Is there a way to do a reset of all the gauges? Any ideas or advice is much appreciated.
