I have some business in austin this weekend and was thinking about taking my boat. I have never been on the lake. Any recommendations on boat ramps and hotels close by will be great? Also any hazards or shallows i need to know about? i would like to board if possible. Ill be driving down from waco friday afternoon.

360 is the busy ramp. you can also drop in at Oyster landing down by the Hula Hut.

The lake will be busy in the afternoon during the week and after 11am on the weekend. You can catch a late surf session after 7pm any night.

Shallow is only if you are way up river. If you see the low water crossing turn around. There is a marked section way up river on the left side that you need to stay away from also.

Watch out for duck weed. If you hit a patch of it just reverse real hard and spin it off your prop.

If you can only get out when everyone else is out then start riding after city park or if you can start riding near Steiner ranch and you might be able to find some smooth water.
