Okay, having a Black boat is cool, but a major pain to keep scratches off when trailering. on the back hold downs (see picture) and bow cradle I seem to get a lot of little marks that will eventually become big marks. Question is, do they make something that I can cover these areas with. I have seen Chrome bow protectors, but no black or clear protectors.

Anyone have suggestions?

Btw its 'gel coat' if you are trying to google for answers. There are some black wax products that help.

3M makes some film products you can cut/shape.

Personally I don't use transom straps but that's my choice but I only tow 1.5 miles at 45mph. I wouldn't use those hooks against the gel coat either. If I were using transom tie downs I would loop a short docking line with a non-scuffing rope sleeve to that rear tie down cleat then use the tie down strap to after the line is clear of the hull of the boat.

A dock line is no where near the strength of a proper tie down strap. I wouldn't trust that for anything in a crash.

Photos of your tie downs that don't scratch to help him out?

I use the clear 3m on my boat in a couple spots. works great.

I agree with AJ, I would try something else. Get some strong webbing (flat or tubular webbing will work) and add that to your current set up, Webbing is incredibly strong and all it looks like you need is to get that hook a few inches lower, below the rub rail, and you wont have any more problems.

I also have used the clear 3m stuff that they use for invisible car bra's on high traffic areas where paint is exposed ..... now they offer it as an aerosol product that I plan on using later to redo some area's
