In my opinion and as somebody who's logged a lot of hours, every T-23 (or any Axis, really) should be running some lead or additional weight in the nose cone. Every aspect of the driveability of your boat improves. It turns lower RPMS surfing and wakeboarding, it planes easier, it will ride better in rough water. The ONLY downside is it is a little harder to pull off the trailer when launching and you can feel the additional tongue weight when going down the road. If your pull rig is a full-size truck (I use 2012 F-150) it is negligible.

Also, if you do run lead, don't tell your dealer. They don't like that


For those that add lead to bow, do you just pack the lead bags as far forward as you can under the bow seats then fill remaining space with the ballast bag of water?

I know its a 650 bag under the bow seat of a T23 but I'm guessing you probably only get about 300 due to limited space??

So quick update, I've switch to the OJ945 prop right now and it'll get on plane with all bags full (no wedge) in about 15 seconds whereas the 2419 took 1:20...so major improvement. RPMs are maybe 200 lower.

The 650 triangle bag actually fills to 820lbs full so I think it's getting more than 300 in there. I put lead in the bow, I put 150lbs and just put it in all corners of the triangle. I didn't want all of it in the nose cone for trailering.

Also, I've been experimenting with ballast placement for wakeboarding. I'm finding that I like the stock tanks full, the triangle bag on top of the seats full, and the wedge deployed and that's it. The shape of the wake is really nice and the wedge adds a nice hard lip. Any more rear weight and it takes too long to plane, RPMs run higher, and the wake isn't that much bigger and it gets a little too lippy for me. This is a nice balance and people in the boat and telling me I'm getting the best air they've seen me get all year.

In an attempt to lengthen the surf wave one our T23 I'm looking bag that fits nicely on the bow seats. Any suggestions? I'm running flyhigh pnp throughout (it came from the dealer with them), and i'd like to plumb it to the under-seat bow bag with quick connects so we don't have to use an external pump. So maybe staying with a flyhigh bag would be best.

Sorry for posting before reading back in this thread - We only have 750's in the rear lockers (still a ridiculous surf wave IMO) to go with the 650 under the bow seats. So the 1000 bag on the front seats will probably result in too much bow weight. We could go 650 on the seats or cowboy up on the 1000 and play around with the fill level. Thoughts?

Maybe go with the sumo 650 for on top of cushions. That bag maxed out holds just over 800lbs. Fill that one all the way up and then fill the under bow bag as needed to dial in the wave. I don't surf but that's what I do for my wakeboard wake and it works great. Plus with the sumo bag connections you don't get any water in the boat.

So how good is the surf wave in a T23, with just the stock ballast, and some extra plug and play ballast?
I'm just trying to keep ballast out of the walkway, and off the seats.

Stellar, you don't "need" any bags in the walkway or on top of the bow seats, but it ain't gonna hurt it.

Anyone have any experience with the best prop for a 409? I just put the first couple hours on my T23 with a 2313 torque prop and the RPMs were over 4,000 when cruising in the 20-22 MPH range. Does this seem high to anyone or is this in the normal range?

I will say the 409 pulls like a beast, though. I could not believe how fast it shot out of the hole compared to my old 2013 A22 with the 330 engine and similar torque prop.

Yeah you don't need a 2313 with the new 409 since it has the new gear ratio. A friend of mine has a 2017 T23 already and he's got the stock 2249 prop and we got on plane absolutely fine with full P&P ballast and 900lbs top of the bow seats, didn't drag at all. RPM were around 4100 with all that weight. Top speed is around 40 I believe. Save your your gas and go back to stock.
