Is there anyone on here who is pulling their Axis with a mid 2000 Tundra with the 4.8L iForce? If so hows that working for you? Test drove one and was impressed, could save some cash over Ford or Chevy and gas milage is better. Claims it can tow 7100# but I need real world feedback lol.

I had a 2003 Tundra I pulled My old malibu with, about 5,500lbs boat, trailer and gear. I could do 75-80 on all the hills to Norris but it would rev real high and I would get about 7mpg, if under 65mph, Mpgs abput 11 towing. I put air bags on the rear to help with sagging with all of our equipment in the bed and boat. No problems with power if your ok revving high and suffering the mileage or going slower- I think the 1st gen tundra is a great truck if the price is right - go for it. I bought mine with 90k miles on it, towed the boat about 3-4k miles a year and had no mechanical issues - we go to TN 5-6 times a year and a 900 mile trip one way to canada every year. I sold it for almost what I bought it for 3yrs later with 135k miles. I had freind selling an 08 tundra for great deal. The 08 with the 5.7 tows much better.

I towed my a22 and my centurion with a 2005 tundra. It does rev high on hills and gets about 10 mpg towing. My brother still has that truck with 150k miles on it. Combined we probably towed 40k miles with that truck with no mechanical issues. If it was 4wd i would have kept it... at the time I launched at a very steep mossy ramp and it was a challenge to pull the a22 out of the water.

Follow up question...does a 2006 F150 with the 5.4 and 180k on the dash scare anyone? This would be a DD and tow vehicle. Looks clean and these were highway miles.

I would seriously scrutinize the maintenance records. Find out if they ever had any issues with the injectors or the motor in general. Also look to see if the transmission has ever been rebuilt. At 180k miles I would really worry that everything is ready to retire. It seems like 200k miles is the new 100k miles. Used to be that all trucks were being rebuilt at or close to 100k. I don't personally know anyone who has kept a 5.4 that long.

I just got a used 2004 dodge Ram quad-cab 5.7l Hemi. to pull my new boat. It only has 73,000mi on it and I got out the door under $13k (all taxes and fees included) with a really bad trade in (rusted old kia spectra). Hopefully it pulls my A22 alright.

Its Blue and my boat is Red with a little white, so maybe I should put a captain America emblem to tie it all together
