Vanamp, you'll be fine with a 5.3ltr 1500. I tow with my 2002 silverado. It does great around here where it's all flat. I towed my old boat here from CA and it was pretty slow going up the mountains but still did well. I get about 10mpg towing vs 13 not towing. That said I do plan to take a hard look at diesel for my next truck.

Where in MN are you? I'm on Forest Lake.

I'm in Cottage Grove (about 15min southeast of St Paul). Spend most of my time at Lake Elmo for boarding and on the St. Croix for relaxing

I've owned a handful of different trucks since I have had the a22... A 4.7 tundra, 5.3 tahoe, now I have a newer 5.7 4wd dodge and a 95 4wd suburban with a newer crate 502. Out of all the trucks the tahoe was the worst for towing. The dodge is a great truck for towing a small boat (25ft and under). The suburban is fun and can tow a ton but its not practical for towing distances. Not sure I could justify a diesel if all I was towing was a wake boat.

Thanks for the feedback. I hope that the 5.3 Tahoe was bad because of gear ratio not the 5.3 itself. I have pretty much made my mind up that I want a 2003-2006 5.3 silverado/sierra as my new tow vehicle. Drove a few dif trucks and really like the ride and handling of these modles. I will be towing my A22 150miles max one way once twice a year over mostly flat ground. The rest of time is quick trips to the ramp.

Does anyone have any experience/opinions on the Nissan Titan? I don't know much about Nissan but there are a couple 3/4 ton titans near me at decent prices.

2010 Nissan Titan 5.6L w/ the bigger gear package (3.36 I believe?) I haven't towed the Axis yet but it did pretty well towing our Tige 23V. Tige is just over 7000lbs with trailer, full fuel tank and gear. It does struggle in the mountains but we have steep inclines. Should do a lot better towing the A22. My next truck will be a F150 Ecoboost or the new Titan with the 5.0L Cummins (after they work out the bugs)

Here is my post from the first page :D there isn't a 3/4 ton Nissan truck, Just half tons. Check out Titantalk for all the info you can handle. Pretty crappy fuel mileage but it's a truck. I originally wanted an F150 but found a 2010 Titan for 10k less than comparably equipped F150s. That buys a lot of fuel

I towed my 23' Glastron (bigger and heavier than my axis) to the lake with an 06 and a 99 silverado 5.3 and they did fine, mine didn't like big hills which is why I upgraded to diesel (ranger hill on I20 is a bad one) but if you're only going 150 miles a few times a year on flat ground it will do that just fine.
