Not sure with the 17 but with my 16 the firmware is already in the system. All I did was buy the puck and plug it in, switched over to GPS from paddle wheel in speed control setting. This also activated the compass/clock screen. Price for just the puck was in the $700 range and that was 10% over dealer cost. My wife worked at the dealer.
