I don't consider new cars, one of the reasons being dealers. I swore I'd not buy a new boat, as well. I knew my dealer socially (kids do gymnastics together) for about two years before I bought mine, and we had talked about boats a bit. I was pretty upfront about what I was thinking, and he eventually swayed me into a new Axis. He made me an absolutely SWEET deal. Point is, he wasn't competing against another dealer for an A22. He was competing against a two year old Malibu V-Ride (and before I narrowed it, a few others like slightly used Moomba, or little bit more used Nautique or Master Craft).
So you might find a few used options, walk in and call his hand: "I'm looking at XYZ boat for $123 price" and either tell him "If I can get a new A2_ for $456, instead, I will" or "How much better can you do?"
You don't have to be rude about it, or anything else. It all boiled down, in my case, to the fact that I was only willing to spend a certain amount of money on a boat, my dealer realized that, so he worked with me to get me into an Axis. I've got no stereo, the base engine, and no tower racks, but I do have about everything else.
Where are you, by the way? I'd be more than happy to recommend my dealer to you if you can swing the trip to East Tennessee.
www.greatwakesboating.com, the owner is Brett Houghton. I can't say for certain that he'll work against another dealer in another region, though. He has a lot of integrity and he may follow the principles Chatt mentioned about not working with folks out of region. But I would still give him a call. If you do, you can tell them Harry King recommended you do.
