Just replaced mine. After busting a knuckle trying to get the impeller out, I opted for the Walter method. :) The allen bolts are 5/16. To get the hoses off, I used a flathead and sprayed some soapy water in there. Came off without a problem. I took some pics labeling exactly what needs to be removed for the mechanically inclined. Thanks for the write up Walter!

The part runs about 40 dollars. I agree with replacing it yearly- cheap insurance. I've seen one of these grenade inside and it's a PITA removing all the parts to find the broken off impeller fins.

I have always removed the pump to change the impeller. I was in a hurry this time and was able to replace it without removing the pump... If you want to try not removing it, this is what I did -- I laid on top of the engine, took the face of the pump housing off, wedged two large screwdrivers on each side of the impeller and popped it out - It worked well.

I'll try the large screwdrivers next time. I was using two of them, but not being able to see what you were doing and engine digging into my chest killed that method for me! It would have probably worked better had I sprayed some lube in there prior to removal.
