Why didn't you drain the full ballast bag by removing the fitting from the bag and letting it drain into the bilge and just drain out the rear drain plug?

Are the 17s using the same aerator pumps as previous years. If so, they are really easy to work on. The cartridge (all mechanical and moving parts) are replaceable. And if you pull the cartridge on a drain pump you have removed the static plug that would be keeping any water in the tank. At minimum, like mentioned above, if you have a full bag you should drain it into the bilge immediately after putting it on the trailer instead of dragging home the weight.
