If you sink the surf gates under water, Will they not work how they are supposed to? I just installed the 850's from wakemakers along with there front bag 390. Filled everything to the max and the boat was just heavy And didn't have a surf wake when I turned on the gate. It was at the end of the day so I didn't do any tweaking as far letting water out of any bags. Do you guys think if add an additional bag on top of the seats in the bow it will even the boat enough, and the surfgate would work as it is intended to?

Are you sure you turned the surfgate on? That should be absolutely enough to make a wave. On an A22 you may want more bow weight to lengthen it but you should have some form of a wave with that weight. It may be washy but will certain be there.

To be honest not 100% it was on. I was sitting in the bow to help with the rise and my wife was driving. After the second time I asked her the glare came out so I didn't dare check. Just curious if anyone has seen this. I was shocked by how much the platform was under the water when the rear bags got filled. So my guess was that if the gates are that much under water they don't work how they are supposed to.

I have had my gates 4 inches under water and they still work fine.. Make sure you are hitting surfing speed! Wave will look like crap until a certain speed. At your elevation the boat might take a little longer to get going..

You can also jam the throttle too fast and it will lock the surf gate

the ballast bags should be a huge help in the back and in the front i have been struggling with getting the right wake but my wave is 2x the size.. I can tell you that a good board in the right size will make all the difference in the world we had a very slow board to start and the thing would plow through the water. There are tons of sites w discounted boards i would talk to them and see what type you need and the right size. you will need your own board... i started with one board now we have 4... its not a one size fits all . definitely more weight up fromt also...

don't drop the wedge..

I would bet good money that with all that weight in the back and not enough front weight you were not hitting a speed fast enough to allow the wave to form? What did the spedo say? On my 16 A22 if I am not around 10mph it will not build. Having experimented a TON on building a good wave with mine key is going to be additional (here me say in addition to your plug and play front sack) front ballast. I have 200lb of lead in the nose and just this year started running an 450lb sack in the nose either on the seats or in the front walkway depending on passenger load. Made a huge difference but honestly could prob use more! With the cockpit of the A boats sitting further back toward the center line than the T boats it takes much more weight in the front to get the boat to "pivot" over when the big sacks are full in the back. If you are just filling everything without additional front weight it simply sinks the surfgates and "wheelies" the boat through the water. Creates a big jacked up wave right behind the swim platform with no real surfable pocket to play in. Take it from a guy that has spent a lot of my life trying to get a good surfwave in this thing and buy more ballast....

We did make it to surf speed, I heard the horn for the cruise. I have additional sacs that I am going to try this week. I have an 1100 pound sac that I was going to try and put in the walkway. Do you think this would get a surf wave or should invest in a bag for on top of the seats?

Got it on the speed - sorry to have been assumptive there. I'm sure the extra weight will help you. Try it in the walkway, as far up as you can go, and see what that yields. Then just for fun move it to the bow cushions and see what you get. Also last tip don't let the crew all ride on the back bench seat where they tend to want to. Mid to forward is my general rule. Good luck with it.

I am similar sized to you guys 6'5" 250lb and am riding a hyperlight broadcast (should be similar to your shim). Now that my riding has really progressed I'm looking for my next board. As mentioned before the wave is only a piece of the equation but you guys should have a good "base" to start with in your board.

Keep us posted!
Cheers,
Drew
