Afternoon everyone - I'm planning on upgrading to a 2012 A22 next week and I've got a few questions. The boat doesn't include the ballast bags and the dealership is going to charge $900 for bags and installation. I consider myself a pretty handy individual, is this something that can be done individually? I've noticed the bags run around $800, so I'm leaning towards just having the dealership do it for $200 more. Same with the extra battery, it's only got the one, but already wired for 2, with the battery switch.

Any issues I may expect or anything that I should know going into the demo next week? It appears that the boat has all the features/options excluding the heater, which I can live without, it's got 8 hrs. and comes with the 3 yr warranty. How does the walk thru transom seating hold up? Seems like alot of traffic would eventually wear out the cushions.

Probably a stupid question, but whats the door on the swim platform for?

Oh, and at just under $50K, good buy?

Thanks much, in advance...

The bags are VERY easy install. I had the dealership install the dual batteries though.

The door on the platform is for the wedge!

Very good buy at just under 50k! Congrats!

VAstyle - It has a bimini, 2 swivel racks, has a depth finder and the Sony CD stereo, 2 amps, 4 tower speakers, the sub and all the speakers thruout the boat.

That's a steal. I'd have the dealership do the plug n plag IF it included bags. The 2nd battery is an easy install. I'd go with a big group 29 for a stereo battery to start with. Might look at on offshore charger like a Prosport to maintain them.

Thanks Matt for the reply/feedback. And I mistyped earlier, its $900 for bags AND install, would just really cost $100 for install since the bags appear to run around $800 online, so I think i'll rest easier paying someone $100 to do it right, the first time.

sounds like a great deal.

As for the bags. What size bags are you getting for the rear lockers? 400, 750's ? I assume with that price you quoted us to buy them yourself ($800) you are getting the 950lbs front Axis bow bag and 2 of the Axis 400's, correct?

At wakemakers this set up is about $800, but you do not need the Axis 400's. They are $240 each. Just get the 2- 400 Fly high pro series x drive set for $230 fpr both. They are identical bags. on the wakemakers "ballast bags" page, they are the 9th one down from the top. $310 for bow sack and $230 for v drive sacks comes to $540. Another $60 bucks for the connection T's, one way valves and elbows and some extra hose. This will save you $300 PLUS you can hook it up yourself which in my opinion will be done better than a dealer doing it. Also, you will gain that knowledge of your system and will be able to repair, adjust, or improve on it in the future.

If you want the 750 sacks, they are $150 each =300, bringing your sack total to $610 plus fittings and hoses, still will save you a couple hundred bucks.

Does your boat already have the front pnp ballast pumps and switch installed? just waiting for a sack to be plugged in? If so, do this all yourself. IF the dealer is drilling a hole, installing both pumps, vent and drain through hulls, wiring the switch for the pumps, installing the bow sack and the rear lockers, then $900 is a steal... otherwise it is a rip off.

*Note: the Axis specific 400's at wakemakers are arguably better than the regular 400's in one way only, they apparently have the fittings for all 3 drain/fill holes cemented in, as opposed to the regular bags that need to be threaded in. Also, there are no "Axis" 750's, so the cheaper 400's and the 750's are essentially the same except for size.

ps: walter has a great post in the do-it-yourself forum about hooking up your plug n play, so if you know how to use scissors and a screwdriver, you will have no problem.
