Just the wife and son on the boat today. Had a nice relaxing afternoon then this crap happens...

So the current was kinda crazy and I'm still a NOOB. But I managed to run over my guide poles and break one of the covers in half, and then the top flew off the other one and scraped about 3 feet down the side of my boat. I was able to get some of it off with some rubbing compound but there is still a descent amount left on. Any tricks to getting the pvc/ abs scratches off? Oh yea, in the beginning of the day some dudes 150 lab jumped on my boat and scratched the top gelcoat too! So I need something to take some light scratches out of the gelcoat too.

For the guide poles, I'm think I'm gonna get these...

Go to home depot and get some penetrating oil called PB Blaster. Anytime I use it I always clean the area with contact cleaner then wax it. If that does not cut it I would try paint thinner then wax it. Good luck

So use the PB blast for the scrapes from the guide poles?

What about a heavy oxidation remover on a pad and buffer. It's gritty and create a little heat. I know that will work for the dog scratch. Then re-wax. I'd try that before a chemical compound.

The foam covers are a must!! A small investment.

I'd try wd40 on the PVC marks, that's what I use to get rubber and tar off the rear quarters on my car and truck

Goo gone, rubbing compound, elbow grease, and wax. It's gone. Just sold my Mustang too, so tomorrow I get sacs and a surf board ordered!

Are these scratches deep...as in the gelcoat?

The scratches were the material from the guide pole covers. That is what I had to get off.
