I have had his problem twice now. The first time the dealer brushed me off and just said its working again. What happens it ill get a warning bell lit up and the tach will scroll NO ECM DATA.

I lose...
-Speedo
-Tach
-Cruise Control will not stay lit nor work
-Depth
-Oil pressure

I am getting so fed up with my dealer working with this boat. I love my boat... I just wish they would get it right and fix all the problems. (Warranty Work)

Didn't they reflash your ECM the first time this happened? I can't remember, but it almost sounds like your dropping something on the network. I think the ECM and the tach and all the other sensors and stuff communicate on a CAN Bus network, kind of like a private computer network. There should be a bus bar somewhere which is the central access point for everything, maybe there is a bad connection somewhere. Whatever it is will probably be tricky to find if it doesn't do it all the time, but I'd at least get it back to them so they can get it documented that you reported a problem, that way the warranty may still cover this when they actually find the problem, good luck with it and keep us posted

You are correct Walter. They all operate on the GM canbus network. It is usually wired with a tx and rx wire that are twisted together. I am a audio tech for cars and study it all the time. I know I could find the problem; although, I should not have too. The ECM is in front of the engine. It can be caused by a loose pin or something. I think it should probly be reflashed. I may have to write Malibu or talk to Gary the territory rep. Its getting to the point I should be given a loaner boat. I will keep everyone updated on the status of this issue. I have more issues than this. The dealer is just pushing me away. Its the problem of being 25 and owning one of these things. They have no respect.

It has not happened since.

What I think happened was the anti siphon was leaking from the cap at the top off it. It was the one over the computer. I think it leaked down onto the computer and go into the pins of the molex plug.

This just happened to me. Exact symptoms. Got caught in a big storm last noght and tje boat got drenched. Have the connectors off now hoping it is just wet. Warranty is a year, right? I am 3 weeks out . Anyway will update as I learn more...

Worked fine the next day (22nd), then a week later. Took the boat out night before last, and got the same NO ECM DATA message. When I talked to my dealer, he had not heard about the issue. Anyone else see anything like this?

FWIW, and in case anyone searches, there is a CAN cable issue, but it in't really intermittent. In my case, it turned out to be the ignition switch. YMMV.
