Hey Everyone. As I sit with a foot of snow on the ground with 5 degree temps I dream of warmer days in a few months. It brought me back to last summer and surfing with my niece. She is 10 and was fearless with me on the surf board. My wife and I have been surfing for two summers now and this last summer was the first time with the two of us on one board. I tried it with my brother in law but it just didn't work out. I think if he knew the fundamentals a little more we could have pulled it off. Anyways, It was a blast and according to the uncle it was "her best week ever!" This brings me to thoughts of all of our friends with little kids. How young is too young for these kids to try this stuff out, if the kid wants to with some enticement? I jokingly say to the parents that next summer is the summer and they all seem to give me a look of "not a chance my kid is going back there." I feel if it were my kid I would want them out as soon as possible because they will then be amazing at this stuff when they are older. Maybe that's unfair to make the assumption. Just throwing it out there for some winter stewing. Any thoughts/comments would help cause we see the little tikes with the dual skis and all that stuff and they seem to be at the "my kid can walk, my kid can ski." Awesome to watch.

I will get a photo posted here too. And if people are wondering we have a '16 A20. And this photo is with 7 people in the boat, roughly 2K ballast, wedge deployed around 10.5 or maybe 11 mph. Once she was some what comfortable I was able to throw the rope.

with a kids sized board (like a phase five scamp) most semi athletic kids should be able to surf on their own at 10.

We are seeing more and more of the Scamp wakesurf being sold. One big fear with young kids wakeboarding is that they are so far behind the boat. with surfing they are within talking distance so I am seeing them ride at younger ages. 8 is probably the youngest I have worked with without double riding.

Our twin boys started wake surfing at 6. If they're comfortable in the water, it's actually pretty easy for them. Key to starting them surfing is to let them sit on a tube that's anchored. They can stand right up if you start slowly and turn the boat as you start pulling them. My boys couldn't start out of deep water for a while.ImageImage

He was 8 at the time and would have started surfing earlier if we had the boat. I'd say he was wakeboarding by 5.
