So we have a 2015 A22.
I've had 2 oils changes done, both by the dealer.
One was during break in, and the other at the end of the season.

So we are about 40 hours into the last oil change.
On Saturday we heard 3 beeps when bringing it back down to neutral to pick up a rider, but there were no other indicators. So I had no idea what was going on. Oil Psi was fine, Engine temp was fine, Volts was fine.

Then out of the blue, I was surfing and my wife was driving. Once again, she brings it down to neutral to pick me up, and it starts beeping like crazy and flashed "Service Engine" or something like that she said. But I get back in the boat and right away I see 0 % Oil PSI.
I check the dip stick and it was dry. Needless to say, I did NOT start it back up. We got a tow into the dock.

It's still under warranty so I took it back to the dealer.
They are saying that it was 2 quarts low, and that PCM recommends oil to be changed at 50 to 75 hours. However, under extreme conditions with weighted boats with surfing and riding, they recommend every 25 to 30 hours.

Here's the deal......I would LOVE to say that we are doing some hardcore surfing/riding (I WISH). I get my time in, but the majority of the time we are pulling the kids on the tube, or a rider who does not want a monster wake.
And it's not like I'm overloading this boat. At the most, for surfing we run stock ballast, 2 650's in the back. 750 bag under the bow, but it doesn't even come close to filling all the way. And sometimes the wedge.

So.....I'm just not buying that answer! I understand recommending to change the oil earlier, but......2 quarts CONSUMED within 40 hours of an oil change?
And why didn't my gauges tell me something sooner? I pay close attention to my gauges, but I'll admit.....I'm not constantly checking my oil. But I sure as hell will now!

By the way, I thought for SURE it would have been a gasket or seal issue, and that I would find oil down in my bilge. But I did not.
And I didn't see anything spill out into the water. However, we did take along trip across the lake about 30 mins earlier, in which we were not towing anyone. So it could have spilled out then.

It is odd that you burned that much oil. Do you check your oil level frequently? Could it be that it was low to begin with?
Most get their oil changed every 50 hours.
I'm having trouble understanding your last statement about oil spilling out into the water

No, I'll be honest, I'm not always manually checking my oil. But I always keep an eye on my gauges, and make sure everything looks good. I do that first thing every morning when we take it out.

When this first happened, I thought that a gasket, seal, o-ring or something had failed, and I was going to see a ton of oil down in my bilge. But there wasn't any. Or I thought I would have seen oil spilled out into the water. I have heard of oil getting sucked up into the engine, and just getting spit out into the water. I didn't see any in the water. But I guess that could have happened during a long trip across the lake, in which I wasn't towing anyone, and no one was looking behind the boat.

So I guess my next question is, even when changing your oil at 50 hours or any amount of hours, have you ever noticed it being 2 quarts low?
And YES.....I'm also wondering if it was low to begin with, which would have happened during my last oil change, which was done by the dealer.

They still have the boat at this point. And I believe they are taking it out today to test everything out. But that answer of "change it more frequently" is just not sitting well with me.

Hopefully, it was low to begin with and you're engine isn't burning oil.

Yeah. I wouldn't be buying the "oil change" stuff either. That's a bunch of bull

New engine burning oil isn't uncommon. I'd keep a closer eye on it and get the dipstick exactly at the FULL mark next change and then track from there; hours vs oil added.

You may have a warranty claim with Crusader after documented severe oil consumption

I had the exact same problem on my 13 A22. I was at lake Powell and my dip stick showed no oil. I freaked out. I called both Malibu/Axis and Indmar the engine maker. Both said that the engine is CAPABLE of burning that much oil in 30-40 hours. Some boats do and some don't. They told me they need to keep the tolerances loose because they rev high on boats. No oil in the bilge, no oil burning smell. Just gone. Now I just keep a close eye on it. I have 200 hours on it now and it seems to be not as bad. Call the engine manufacturer and ask.

My 16 T23 burns oil like no other boat I've had. Dealer and PCM say it's normal because of the ballast we run about 5k. I change my oil every 50 hours but I think I could go further cause I'm always adding oil.

No oil burning in mine (just over 125 hours) and we are over 5k lbs 80 percent of the time (plus passangers)

I was told the 409 wasn't as bad. My 350 uses oil like I've never seen. But like I said they say it's normal. My other 3 boats all had Indmar motors and never used a drop of oil.
