So yesterday we were out and I noticed that two of my interior speakers on the center starboard side were distorted and quite a bit of static while sitting with the key turned left. I started the boat and while idling, I cranked the volume up to around 25ish and like a light switch being flipped, they went back to working normal. All is well right?? Well not so much, I walked back to the rear of the boat and now my right rev 410 is not working and never came back on the rest of the day. I can tell it is getting power of some sort because there is a small whine coming from it when you put your ear close up to it. Not the first time that the interiors have had static and have had to be "fixed" by turning the volume up high, but it is the first time the towers have had any problems. I am beyond frustrated and my dealer is closed until tuesday...

Anyone else have these issues?

The only issue I seem to have on my sound pack 3 is slight noise on the line with the ipod connection, but the bluetooth is unusable because of all the noise and distortion. The dealer is going to look into it over the winter.

I also have a small amount of "white noise/whine" all the time in my towers

I would talk with Rob over at Wetsounds. He'll be able to help in troubleshooting much better than the dealer. What are the gains on the amps set to and what volume is your head unit when at max?

I havent touched any settings on the amps from their factory settings. The max we go on the headunit is usually 32-35 depending on the song.

Its not a volume issue causing the distortion. Because we were listening to music at like 10 on the volume and it sounded terrible. Thank cranked it up and it was terrible too for a few seconds then "clicked" back into the deep/rich luxurious sound that I am used to haha.

And I have no clue whats up with the tower speaker (rev 410) that would cause it to be working fine one minute then go silent the next....

Mine has the crackly sound every time, until the volume is cranked like yours. A local Wetsounds dealer installed a 420 SQ ... he then tuned the system. There was a whine which he added a ground loop isolator, fixed the whine and the issue with the crackly sound when first turned on.

I'm no professional audiophile but if the max on the head unit is 50 it shouldn't be at 32 to 35 where wehave to stop the volume. The gains were not set properly nor was the way the sub connected correect. Apparently I had some kind of dial, this controlled the sub (below the surfgate controls), this wasn't working right due to how the rcas were connected.

As far as the REV420, that sounds like a bad channel. Check the amp to see if you see loose wires or can switch the left and right maybe??? Honestly, I'd probably not mess with much myself due to warranty issues potentially. I'd highly recommend getting a pro to visit and tune it. The 420 sq retails for 300. I paid 550 which included the unit, power and rca cabling (all wetwire) and the tuning ... done in about 3 hours and it's noticably better ... he also adjusted the gains to set max head unit volume and amp output to match 50 ... loud and crystal clear! Thanks Tim Johnson @ Lake Anna!!

Thanks for the info. I have checked the wires coming out of the amp and all are fine. I have even swapped the RCA's and still no luck. My bass knob below the surfgate works properly. And you are correct, I havent messed too much with it because of warranty issues. I ran all the tower wires and hooked up 3 amp, and 4 wetsounds tower speakers myself in my 2000 VLX, but I am timid to mess with this because I know how warranty issues go when you start messing with things.

Once "tuned" your head unit should be right at 40 on the volume and then you should adjust volume with the 420 as desired.

^^^^ agree with that, system should not be tuned for 50. 40 or 42 is about right. Above that the head unit itself will start clipping and adding distortion.

You turn down the gains at the amp to remove any chance of distortion. Distortion shouldn't come from the source if it's clean like an MP3 should be (unless it's a low quality recording), comes from the amps overpowering the woofer / tweater; perhaps I am wrong. That being said, and I'm not sure why, the install manual also does recommend setting the head unit at a lower setting as well. My preference was to max the unit removing the chance of my 13yr old son cranking the radio to the point of distortion. I promise, zero distortion at 50 because the gains on the amps are turned down as such. Flashback to the day of 8 Tracks and LP 33's haha. Good luck with the system and keep us posted!
