I've searched this forum and didn't find anything conclusive in this topic, which seems curious to me.

We are doing a lot more surfing this season so we've increased the number of surf boards on board. Which is a pain with more than just a small crew as they have to be delicately placed on seats or aisle ways. Short of a Z5, has anyone figured a way to store them out of the way? I've got 4 swivel racks but hear nothing but horror stories about surf boards and racks, even though they would fit fine in the larger-opening set of tines.

Has anyone experimented with attaching/strapping a surfboard zippered case to the underside of the stock sun shade and then just slipping the board in and out? Would it support the weight of one (or two) surf boards? Are there weight distributing or strap tension-distributing inserts for the racks? What are you guys doing?

For reference our regular trips out include 4-5 wakeboards in the racks and 2-3 surf boards. The surf boards aren't high end, hand laid specials, but I don't want to mess them up unnecessarily. For construction reference - one is a Byerly Hazard and one is a Koal Powertail.

Thanks in advance.

That was my chief complaint about my A22 when I had it. Short of the Z5 no one I've seen or heard of has come up with a way to store surf boards without damaging them. You could contact this guy and see if he's done this to fit an Axis tower but it might be too dang tall on the Axis tower to effectively reach your boards. If you ever think about upgrading your boat, the A24 can fit at least 3 boards under the long seat behind the driver if you don't get the flip up seat back.

Corson hasn't had anyone with an axis buy his racks yet. I am looking at getting a set this winter. We store our boards in the rear lockers but that's worthless as soon as we are on the water. I have been using the tower racks and forcing everyone to let me put them in and take them out. PIA!!! Also thinking about having a couple pockets sewn into the Bimini for boards.

Thankfully the standard bimini on the new '15s have straps for surf board storage. That's a huge improvement.

That was one of the more notable things I read about the '15.

Trying not to solve the problem with a new boat, but an A24 or MXZ would be an interesting solution.

As an aside, saw a '15 T22 on the lake yesterday with the new tower in white. It would be nice to have the factory surf storage but not a fan of the tower design after seeing it in person. I suppose these things are subjective though.
