I have read about people taking one of the rear ballast tanks out of the rear locker and placing it on the surf side seat. How are you filling the ballast bag after you take it out of the locker? Is there a pump that you can buy or did you make the hoses longer? I'm assuming you have a pump.

Thanks for any input.

You can buy a pump.

Pump and fitting options can be found here - http://www.boardstop.com/index.php?cPath=59_61_181

I switched to an external pump so I could use both my 400's on the same side for surfing, so far I like it

Thanks stopped at my local ski shop and picked up an external pump on my lunch hour. I am really trying to elongate the pocket for surfing. Usually it's just my wife, myself, and my 2 young boys in the boat so I'm hoping the extra ballast bag on the seat will do the trick!

Thanks

The extra sac on the seat will definitely help with a small crew like you have. However, to lengthen the wake you're more than lky going to have to increase your speed a little and add more bow weight, like an extra 400 or triangle sac on top of the bow seat. This will push more of the "V" of the hull under the bow into the water causing more displacement of the water to go along the hull until it gets to the back of the boat to help build the wave a little more. Taller, steeper wave equals more rear and surf side weight...longer pocket needs more bow weight and/or a tiny bit more speed.

I'm flying to Wyoming for 28 days of work or else that could have been possible Walter.

Also, 1100lb sacs in the rear are a must for small crews and with an 2012 or newer Axis or a pre2012 with new platform. It's amazing what that 1100 sac will do the 750's cannot. That's of course if you want the most out of surfing experience.

IF you add a 400 sac to the bow be sure to place it long ways along the side of the boat being surfed. Because of the pickle fork and wide bow seating this 400 extra bow sac shifted to one side does add more list to the boat to get just a little bit more of that rear corner deeper.

Here's a pic from today when I was teaching a co-worker how to surf. He got it right away but the wave was pretty spot on. Setup was: 750 rear locker, an older 800lb bag under the bow filled a lil over halfway, center tank empty and a 550lb on the surf side floor. Wedge up and speed around 11.6 (not calibrated - prolly closer to 11.4). Only myself in the boat and older swim platform. Wave was pretty meaty for just one person in the boat. About mid thigh high, almost to his waist.
