I got a 2011 axis a22 and have been having trouble getting a clean wake to surf on. I'm very new to surfing but have seen vids of great surf wakes behind the a22. I have the factory ballast plus 750 in each rear storages and 950 in front. I also have another 800lb sac I can throw in if needed but haven't tried that yet. I've tried with back left filled, back left filled and front filled, and back left front and center filled and the only clean wake I've seen is at like 13-14mph. When I read about it it seems like max speed anyone goes is like 11.5. What am I doing wrong? What adjustments can I make to get a better wake at slower speeds?

We have the 2013 just got it this year same issue. We added 950 front, and a plug n play 750 also in port rear. Other day, I saw this beautiful wave for my daughter with wife driving me on the port rear side. I am about 200# I can not get same wave for myself, I am told you need weight on port front. or mid port side. Keep port tilted tight to that side.

It is an experiment, but not as easy as they make it sound.

Oh and Wake Plate was down. I will try to get some pics next time.

So you had 750 in port rear plus you in port rear 950 filled in front and wedge down? What speed?

The 950 is a bow sac or front.

I ride goofy side same set up and get a pretty good wave. I ride with the wedge up on goofy side seams to be much better without it.

Your main issue is going to be your platform if you haven't upgraded it to the new style that came out in 2012. The more weight you add to the rear to try to get a bigger wave the more that sharp corner of your platform is going to dig into the wave and ruin it. Likewise, if you add a lot more weight to the front then you won't have enough of the back of the boat deep in the water. The higher the speed, the longer and the cleaner the wave but you'll lose push/power. Some of us have similar weight set ups but it seems we all like different speeds. This is more than likely due to boards and surf style. When I skim I ride at 11-11.2mph. When I ride surf style i'll ride up to 12mph but usually start around 11.8mph and adjust from there. My ex-gf would ride at 12.8-13mph.

I'm bout to go play with it some more. Maybe try less weight to keep the swim deck from really diggin in.

Don't sweat the platform corner digging in too much. It's gonna throw some splash up on the face of the wave but won't affect the "push" much. I surf with a similar set up (750 in rear, around 400 under bow and a 550 on the surf side floor). Been playing around with center tank empty or filled somewhat. My swim deck rests several inches under water and does cut into the wave a bit when moving but I still get great push to do airs and ride pretty far back. I ride around 12.2-12.5 (not calibrated). Good luck and just spend some time experimenting and playing around with the setup. As AJ said, its very board specific and also rider specific as to how fast and how much weight you'll need.
