Took the boat out and found water leaking around the packing on the drive shaft. When you crank the boat water starts to come in and when you put it in gear it gets worse. The boat is at the dealer out of factory warranty and extended warranty does not cover it. They are saying around $500 to fix this problem. Any cheaper solutions.

I have order the Teflon packing and redone it on my old DD. not sure how hard it would be these. I know you have to pull the drive shaft out take the bass coupling. That is where the packing goes.

I think it's more labor intensive and that's why the cost is so high.

Good luck.

If you're looking for a DIY you could replace it with a dripless seal - viewtopic.php?f=16&t=480&hilit=dripless. Since you mention packing I'm assuming it is the older model of seal. Is the dealer just replacing the packing?

Gibbs, mine is a 2010 with 150 hours and mine was pouring water. I just did the dripless shaft seal. Not too bad all in all. I can give you some pointers if you need them, but most if not all issues have been covered in that thread. All said and done, about $175

No get your seal here: http://www.bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=2182

And get one of these barbed T fittings that are 1-1/4 x 1-1/4 x 1/2 FPT (female pipe thread) then when you get the kit from bakes, take out the 1/2 fitting from the T they send you and put into this one. In the kit they want you to put in into the warm line out of the engine, but me and Walter put ours in the cool line just after the impeller. My line was 1-1/4 ID. http://flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?&product=Barb-Tees it is the 10th one down in the left column.

Mine is done. I've got some bags and prop, along with an EQ to install then off to the lake to test. But driveway looked like good flow.
