I have had the worst luck with gel coat on this boat. I have given a beaten to other watercraft I have owned. I have had over 10 different cracks in my gel coat including cracking on my floor around the drivers seat and hull access port. Someone once said before to give the boats a good look over before the warranty expired. That person was a member of this forum. They were screwed because they did not notice until the 1 year warranty was over. I am on my second year of my axis and I will continue to warranty every part that breaks. Now the labor is on me which is fine.
If you look down the side of your Axis below the rub rail, the fiberglass on these boats are so wavy. Its unbelievable. I talked to one of the plant managers as we had him work a booth with us at a show and he was hoping the hull molds would be soon changed.

I am probably no help as my boat is all white. I know that dark/black gel coats are harder to keep clean, show scratches, show dirt, bake on dirt and water spots more than light colors, but I have none of these issues with my boat. My previous boat was black and white and I noticed the black showed scratches and the white did not show (even though they had the same damage). Hopefully all the guys on here with black boats can chime in.

my black shows everything...I thought it was just the color, but it may be the gel coat. (although my boat did take a little more of a "beating" than most being a demo to the YMCA). Even the black vinyl melted this summer...it got so hot where the black met black that it actually bubbled up. SMG was awesome though, they recovered the front corner cushions for FREE/Warantee.

My boat shows everything also, but it's no different than my black truck! A little wax and she looks better than new.
