I found out what caused the problem. The set screw that holds the drive shaft in the V-drive was never installed from the factory. We are lucky that it lasted as long as it did. I found out that they will not warranty my prop since it is not the stock prop.

That shouldn't matter. I would call their bluff on that one.

The only thing the set screw does is lock down the nut holding the shaft to the flange, the nut has a nylon top on it that keeps it tight regardless of whether or not there is a set screw, when I changed my seal I had to use an impact to bust loose the nut it was so tight, that and there is no way it's gonna fall apart if you were moving forward when it happened, think about it for a sec, the prop is constantly pushing the shaft which is pushing the coupler attached to the v-drive, which is pushing the engine which is bolted to the hull pushing out of the water, the only way it would be possible to come apart is If you were surfing in reverse, or you hit something and sheared the threads and keyway, the only reason the nuts are even on the shaft is to hold it together in reverse, something else happened that they're covering up.

How should I find out what the truth is? I agree it does not sound possible that it was only the set screw. The dealer does not know when it is going to be done and said it would take a long time to get all of the parts in.

Well it's your boat, I'd go down there and ask to see the damages and broken parts so you can document everything for your own records, even if It's just to take pictures, ask the service manager to explain what their theory is on what happened, even if it is under warranty I'd still at least expect an explanation on the cause.
Get pictures!!

I will email them and ask the service manager to explain it all to me in writing. I would love to get pictures but the dealer is 2.5 hours away from me and I don't have the time to go up there and take them. I wish I had a dealer closer to me.
