We started having problems with our surf gates not working. We’d get surf gate lock message on dash. Once we pulled the boat out of the water we noticed the actuator wire coming from the transom to actuator curled through a small wire clip. The wire was damaged because of it rubbing through the clip overtime. The same wire is damaged on both port and starboard surf gates. We contacted Malibu and sent pictures and they said it’s a rodent! It’s obvious that the wire is rubbing the wire clip. It’s kinda coincidence that both sides have the same damage on the same location?? What do you think? All we do is surf so I can see that over time this could happen. Now just trying to convince Malibu they have a design flaw.

Also, keep in mind that I had to pull the cable out some to show the wire damage. Otherwise the damaged part of the wire is positioned inside the clip.

Pretty sure that's rodent damage. Its the saw tooth shape of the damage that gives it away. A plastic clip will not cut wire like that, if at all. One gouge or a smooth rub through and I'd be with you. See this all the time at the car dealership I work at.

I’d be convinced also however it’s on both sides in the exact same place. How did the rodent chew through the wire when it was inside the clip?
