Factory mount on my 15' A24 is just to the rear of the amps on the rack, on the outboard wall. Prosport mariner 20 I believe.

Factory is Prosport 12. People mount them everywhere, amp rack, inside wall by Perko switch, even the wall behind the bow seat.

Now if I used a starter battery and then had a true deep cycle battery as battery 2, could I use the deep cycle to start boat if the starter battery failed for some reason?

I see some people use the XS Power xs3000 as their deep cycle battery to power their stereo system

I think you are trying to over do it. The dual battery system that comes from Axis works great and I have never been stuck because of a battery. If you plan on jamming the radio for a long time, just switch the battery to one or the other. No need to change things up unless you just want to spend money for the fun of it.

I agree we have never had a problem. We sit with the radio on for hours sometimes with the standard system with no issues.

Thanks for everyone's input. I added the onboard charger and works great. Great piece of mind.

I run about 3200W so I'm cautious on the water when it comes to batteries. I run a starter battery and a Kinetik power cell for the audio on a Perko. I have a Noco Genius dual bank onboard charger. I've left out connected for WEEKS. I trust it immensely (as you can tell). I've had the promariner20. The Noco is hands down better. It can charge different types of batteries on each bank. The 20 can't.
