Tried to go our for a quick session after work last night and the right rear ballast would not work, fill or drain. I then frantically looked around, switched out toggles, and wiggled wires. I figured out that the circuit had tripped and eventually got the switch to light up again and got the fill working. After my session I attempted to drain the ballast on that side and the switch lit up on the toggle like it turned on but never started draining. It then tripped the circuit... repeatedly. I can not find loose, cut or rusted wires. Anyone have experience with this? What is the lifespan on these ballast pumps? They seem fairly inexpensive, so it's not a big deal to switch out but would love a more simple fix, if there is one? Thank you.

I had a 07 Malibu VLX and the pump kept shorting out like that and ended up having to replace the pump. Can't remember price but it wasn't a big deal.

Pull the cartridge and check for a seized or semi-seize impeller on the cartridge. Also there may be debris binding it up. It happened to my 2010 a few times

+1, usually a drain issue, though.

OK, my question is if the pump fails after the tank is full, how do you drain it, much less load the boat on the trailer? The owners manual says to not trailer the boat with full tanks.

The new pump fixed the problem... There are desperate pumps for fill and drain, so I was forced to load with the hard tank full. Had a hand held pump for plug n play bag. Probably not ideal but once in a blue moon isn't going to hurt anything.

gixxer, You could put it on the trailer (still on the ramp), pull the center drain plug, pull the ballast bag drain hose off, and pull boat out of the water slowly. water will drain out the bottom of the boat. I would not worry about trailering with hard tanks full for short-med distances.
