So today is the day I have waited for all winter! I am leaving this evening for Michigan to pick up the new boat. It is about an 8 hour drive.
Here is my question... What breaks come on the Axis trailer? The dealer says they are surge but the plug is a seven round. I don't have a electric brake controller and I don't want to drive up and find it has electric brakes. Thoughts??

Every axis trailer I have seen has surge brakes. To verify, disconnect the trailer wiring and try to backup slowly. If the trailer resist you it has surge working brakes.

No brake controller needed. Just a seven round

Surge brakes. The 7-pin adapter is because you need the reverse lights hooked up in order to be able to drive in reverse.
The reverse light triggers a solenoid at the surge brake to disable the brakes when you're backing up.

X4 on the surge. I don't think I have ever seen a tow boat on a trailer with electric brakes?? Even my 1990 Nautique had surge

It's definitely surge even though it has the 7 round plug. I think they do that because the 7 round is a more reliable connector and most pickups are already setup for 7 round. Technically, 5 flat is all that's really needed here so they go overkill for whatever reason

Excellent! I am hitting the road right now. I thought it would be a 5 flat but I guess 7 round is becoming standard. Thanks for all the help!!

Electric brakes would rust up and cause all kinds of problems as soon as you dunk the trailer in the water, pretty sure all(or most) boat trailers are hydraulic brakes
