I used to have problems with the left rear tail light not working, I ended up cutting the connector off my trailer and putting on the big 7 pin round harness on and got rid of all the adapters and haven't had any problems since

Sorry for the slight hijack, are the 2014 boatmate trailer flat five or round 7? From my experience the round connectors work a lot better.

Thanks

I've never seen an Axis trailer with a flat connector, my 2011 and 2014 have round.

Great, that is what i was hoping! Thanks for the reply. All the reversing issues i had was with the 5 flat. Zero issues with the 7 round!

On my old trailer which was a boat mate trailer used to not work at all once first hooked up. I believe they ground through the ball of the hitch? So all we did was start moving forward then lock the brakes up and it would flash the lights up.

09-10 had 5 flat i believe, (at least my 10 had it) if your vehicle doesn't have reverse power wired into the connector the back-up solenoid will not engage on the trailer. The ground goes through the 1 odd connection. depending on what connector your'e looking at, if there are 4 female pins the ground is the 1 male pin or vice versa.

For the OP see if you can find a trailer connector tester, then make sure you have signal to the trailer in reverse

Glad you got it fixed for the next person that has the same problem I was going to recommend taking the boat and truck to your trusted auto mechanic we find the not all the plugs are wired correctly for all trailers or vise versa. some times a simple switching of the wire locations or adding an extra splice/ground is all it takes. we do that all the time

@ Walter I had the same issue with the tail lights, I found that the 4 pin adapter pins inside the folding tongue connection where to small and not making connection to the female portion of the plug, I spread them out so they made contact, no issues since

Ya I had to cut mine out, it corroded at the connection, then I just said screw it and heat-shrinked in a whole new 7-pin and haven't had a problem since
