I searched found nothing maybe you guys can help. my pull is 2002 tacoma v6 I just bought that converter box to go to 4pin flat ( I guess Toyota uses one wire as a combination of brake and marker light. that's why converter box is needed . It would also explain why the brake lights never worked on my jet skis and mastercraft trailer) when my a20 comes in jan 28 th ordered. I want to be ready to roll. I also purchased a 4 wire flat to round style plug will this get me home 500 mile journey thru the Catskills? Or am I going to need a surge brake box and all the fixin to go with?

Brake controllers (if that's what you are asking about) are for electric brakes. There is no controller needed for surge brakes. Surge brakes work so that when you slow the truck, the boat pushes on the hitch and compresses it's brake cylinder. It's purely mechanical, no electrics needed for that. That said, I don't have advice on how that truck will do in the mountains. I'd expect you will be going pretty slow up the inclines.

if you ordered new i'm pretty sure your trailer will come with a 7 pin round connector, just take your truck and have the 7 pin receiver put on it and you'll be good to go with no adapters

Thank you for your input and pics but I am still confused! from what Ive gathered so far on a
single axle trailer that hasnt been delivered yet
1 a trailer brake controller would not apply brakes to this trailer
2 there are no commercially available kits- 7 way blade for tacoma. or any tacoma wire diagrams
3 I have a 7 way blade to 4 pin connector would this work?
4 if #1 statement is true it would be easier to rewire the trailer to 4 pin

I see what you're talking about on the 2002 Tacoma. Maybe this will help?

I guess the big question you need answered is does the trailer have surge brakes on it.....

To further confuse the situation... Your truck would actually need to be wired for a 5 pin flat connector then you would need a 5 pin to 7 round adapter. The 5th pin on the flat connector is what activates the brake lockout solenoid so that you can back the trailer up without the brakes locking up. Best way would be to try and have the truck wired to a 7 way round connector if at all possible. Then you can do anything you need with the appropriate adapter. And yes ferral is absolutely correct you do not need a brake controller for surge brakes.
