I had a Cherokee sport for a year, pulled over 3000 miles. A malibu at 5000 lbs and it was rated at 3500, but it had 4 low on the steep ramps.

In my mind it's more about being able to stop than pull. If I was overloaded and got in an accident because I couldn't stop in time, or my overloaded trailer jackknifed my vehicle, I would feel horrible.
