Hi All - I would really appreciate some guidance as I'm based in Abu Dhabi which has no reputable Axis/Indmar dealers.

My starboard MTX CAT SS on an Indmar LS3 6.2L sprung a leak around the nipple which houses the O2 sensor - the result was salt water all over the alternator which also needs replacing. We cannot manage to weld or silver solder the CAT so have decided to remove the starboard and port cat system and replace with standard manifold as the catalytic converter is not required under Abu Dhabi's emission standards.

So, please would you advise which manifolds to buy and where to buy them + the associated gaskets. Also, the boat Axis A22 2011 has a salt water system in place - i.e. closed cooling system which connects to the CAT with two pipes - where would I fit this on the new manifold? And finally, if I remove the CAT system what do I do with the O2 sensors?

Would really appreciate help and advice please.

Just my 2 cents, but its gonna be way more work to get rid of the cat manifolds then to just buy a replacement. Im a mechanic/ smog tech and I really use to hate emissions equipment but the benefits far out weight the cons. Do you surf? do you want to be breathing all that carbon monoxide? This is one of the reasons im buying a new boat. Ok if you don't care about that lets look at the other side of it. Your gonna have to buy both left and right manifolds and accompanying hardware. That's the easy part. Your engine is designed to work with o2 sensors. You cant just unplug them. The computer will set codes and may even go into limp mode because its not getting feedback from the sensors. Even if you had the ability to reflash the computer to not look for the sensors your are now loosing closed loop fuel control, which will cause increased fuel consumption, and will somewhat effect drivability. most open loop fuel systems have to run slight rich to keep combustion temps down in order to not melt the marine exhaust system. lean mixtures create high combustions temps, extra fuel actually cools the process. The extra fuel then fouls the plugs and that why older boats have to have the spark plugs replaced often.

I use to not care all that much about a non catalyst boat but I have a 3 year old now and she loves the lake. I don't want her breathing that crap. Parenthood, it really changes how you look at everything.....

Send an email to someone at Indmar and see if there's anything they can do to help, worth a shot!

Hi There,

I can help! I am in the UK but we have done this before (No need for cats here in the UK either!). I am an Axis and Indmar trained technician.

I need your engine serial number first, so that I can tell you what step is next.

It will not be as simple as getting rid of the cats. You will need to re-map the ECM also because the engine currently takes signals from the 02 sensors, which you don't have on the non-cat manifolds.. Do you have Diacom there? If you do not, I have a work around but it's not as ideal as simply changing the map on the ECM.

Feel free to call me: +44 (0)1270 580180.

Mike

Does the diacom software allow you to delete the O2 sensors and make a standard fuel table like the cat-less models? Mine doesn't have cats but I'm just curious how you did it?

Afraid you can't, you need the exact engine map to suit the application and setup. On the current setup, the engine is relying on the 02 sensors to manage it's fuelling. If you take them away it needs something else to go to.

If i have the serial number I will then know which map to supply.
