I am looking at both a 2011 A20 and a new 2013 A20. What differences have been made between the years? I sure would like to save some cash on a few year old boat, but if the first couple years have issues then I may just go new. I have heard the vinyl is much lower quality in the '11's over the 13's but how true is that? Thanks!

Welcome to the site.

This thread discusses some of the changes that came in 2013 - http://www.axiswakeboardboats.com/viewt ... f=14&t=759. Page 3 of the thread has a good summary of the changes. From 2011 to 2012 one of the big changes was the platform design. The corners were taken off to reduce the drag of the platform during wake surfing. But, if you end of with an older platform you can make your own surf-gate - viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1674.

If wake surfing will be a prominent activity, you might consider a 2014 as it includes the surf-gate option.

so is the platform change that big of a deal? the 2011 I am looking at has already had the vinyl skin on the rear seat and sun deck replaced. The 2013 I looked at seemed to have nice vinyl though. I am astounded that Malibu would put crap vinyl in any boat it releases. My 2003 Malibu Sportster (value boat also) NEVER had a vinyl issue.

Me wake... Check out my 2012 a22 for sale on eBay. Search 2012 Axis a22. Super low hours, loaded, and in mint condition. Most of us are glad we got the extra 2 feet with the 22. Mine is surf ready!

I've had no vinyl issues with my 2011 A20, it has held up great and cleans easily. Overall the A20 is a great boat and short of a few minor tweaks to the instrumentation and platform design they are virtually the same. If you can save $5,000 or so (assuming here) on a used over new...and it was well-maintained and service documented then you should do it.

I wish I could get a 22'er. My garage is 21' long in the boat stall... I almost got a VTX with powerwedge for a sweet price, but even with the trailer folded, It was a few inches too long. So I am forced to stay with the A20 or MC x2. That said the A20 I demoed the other day was awesome and even with stock ballast, it was much better wake and surf than my I-drive malibu. @ spyderwebb, Thats good to hear about the vinyl on the 2011, do you surf? and does the platform really matter? Ive also heard that it can be replaced with a 2012-13 platform for about $800 if I hate the drag.

I've only surfed a a few times behind it, still learning.

I originally bought it for my son to wakeboard, now he's gone (grown up and moved away, wouldn't let him take the boat....yet )and it's just me and my gal...so more beer drinking and floating around then anything.

It's plenty of boat for me, and fits in my garage is the best part!

As for the platform... I like the looks of the newer one and it is probably better for surfing, but I've been following the guys on this site as they develop a surfgate attachement and beleive I can dupilcate one and achieve the same results.

No complaints.
