Just about to pull trigger in a new to me A22. Will do about 50/50 surf to wake.

Someone told me the Stock AR 335 engine would be working very hard if I added the plug and play ballast to surf, ect. Ie. fully weighted.

Should I be looking only at boats with the upgraded 350? Or LSV engine?

In mine I'm running 900 lb sumos in the rear, an older fly high arrow (under the seats) and the 2315 prop. I need extra weight in the front to get on plane, but I've done it with a 700 lb bag (plus 3-4 people in boat plus gear). And that's with a 335.

I'd get the engine with the most torque you can afford. Indmar doesn't seem to publish exact specs so I'm not sure what sort of difference you'd get between the 335 and 350.

Unless your at a high elevation I think your wasting your money to get anything other than the 335. We weight it down just like Dave and run the 2313acme and it does great.

I should add that while I usually boat at 400' I have run that weight and prop OK at 3400'.

I run 3400# ballast with the wedge down and 335 motor no problem. I usually need someone to sit in the bow to help get on a plane but not problem from my motor!

BTW i run the 1235

Im running close to 4000lbs water ballast plus ~1000lb wedge for surfing. With the 1235 prop I am turning 3300rpms at 800' elevation. I would say the engine is working hard, but definitely not "very hard". I would love to have an LS3, but really the only advantage would be the ability to run a steeper prop for more topend speed. ***Having to run premium fuel would be a big negative.

335 here too.

I have the 335 CAT motor on my A22 at 1400' elevation (or 1800, not sure), run 4200-5000 lbs ballast, no wedge, 2315 prop. If I have 2 in the boat, or just 1, I can plane no problem, anything over 2 makes it a lot more difficult.

Not sure on torque specs but I have read on WW that the 335 to 350 is not really an upgrade as far as low end torque...may want to do a little research on that.

I was had the same question. We are looking at ordering a 2014 A22 and my dealer (good friend) told me that the 350 only produces more hp in the upper rpms. No torque gain in the lower rpms. Our lowest lake is close to 3000' and upper lake is over 5000'. Most everyone here is changing their prop and not having issues.

Saturday I had all ballast full stock and 600's rear arrow sac up from plus 300lb lead up front.

11- people in my boat and it planed out fine with 335 and 2313 prop. Wake was awesome too

So probably people gear and all 5000lbs of ballast.
